I Choose Education.
I believe that Joy Ann Reid as well as Roland Martin, broke down what is happening better than anyone could have explained it. I have been asking for the last few months what their endgame is. Although to me, time is relative, advancement gives the illusion of change.
Over the last several months I have been creating educational content out of fear that education for the poor will become unavailable and unaffordable. As history was my major area of concentration from high school through college, I felt that would be an important starting point for the platform that I wanted to create.
When looking at history through a single prism, such as American history or the history of Great Britain, you have to start from the beginning. Especially American history. In reviewing my research sources something hit me hard about the original oligarchs called the “Planters” who were the Plantation owners because they didn’t plant anything; it was either an indentured servant or a slave doing the planting. So Joy Ann Reid during her new podcast did a masterful job in explaining “Understanding Trump's America”.
Here, I have to give her full credit for what she said in order to make my point. In her eloquence she coined it “ The Rise of Oligarchy: A Historical Perspective”, starting at 15:32, and I quote, “ this country did not start out as a democracy it started out as an oligarchy, with a small number of very rich European men mostly big plantation owners running everything and poor European settlers, small farmers and indentured workers alongside ex enslaved Africans forming the labor force while indigenous people basically got wiped out by germs and got their land stolen, thanks to guns and we remained pretty much an oligarchy until the Civil War overturned the slave system.”
I will end it here for a moment and pick up at 16:18, whereas she continued, “in 1877 after the Union troops left the South and the Republican party at that time switched from abolition to backing the super rich men whose fortunes were made not by being plantation owners but by being the industrialists who powered the Union side in the Civil War, “America”, she continued “basically traded a planter aristocracy for a railroad and steel mill version”. Her point being that the current oligarchs which makes up “Trump's America” wish to do a 2.0 version of “ the gilded age” where the super rich expels the migrant documented and un-documented from the labor force through mass deportation, reduce the federal workforce thus raising the unemployment numbers, vilify higher education and dismantle public education so that you have a cheap ultra low wage, uneducated labor force consisting of poor whites and African Americans and other “American minority groups who will do any job when there are no jobs. Welcome back 1870, only this time it’s Big Tech, Crypto and Social Media. The Rockefellers, the Carnegies, the Vanderbilts and the Morgans have been replaced by the Trumps, The Musk, Murddocks, the Theils, we call them the one percent.
Our politicians no matter what their political party affiliation, fall in line or get voted out and the American people aren't the ones voting. The rest of the world either fall in line or wind up like President Duterte, in The Hague or become a marked man, like Ibrahim Traoré who has certainly been making waves in West African politics. His leadership in Burkina Faso has sparked international debates on sovereignty, security, and foreign influence, particularly with his shift away from France and toward Russia.
It has only been five months since Trump took office and we all feel like it's been five years already. We are frustrated in our resistance, everyday there is a new distraction. Right now in Los Angeles, we are being baited into a situation that could spark Martial Law.
Roland Martin, when talking about Black ownership, put it this way in explaining “How Black America is Used’ He asked “ Do you remember In Living Color, Rock, New York Undercover, South Central? Do you remember what network those shows were on? Yes it was Fox and guess who owns Fox Television Network? Oh yes it’s Rupert Murdock. How did Fox News get started? The content was built on black viewership without any Blacks having a stake in the ownership. Who owns Tubi Television? Tubi Network is owned by Fox Corporation. They acquired Tubi in March 2020 for $440 million. Since then, Tubi has become a significant part of Fox's digital streaming strategy. Why do we contribute to our own demise” he asked. His point was they use us to build their generational wealth and we allow it. They have turned America from a production based country into a consumer based country and as much as they dangle the carrot of manufacturing jobs making a comeback, that is not going to happen.
Regardless as to whether we continue to live in America or create a space elsewhere, we cannot continue on this road of unending consumerism and not have a stake in it. Property ownership and entrepreneurship has to be the key to our survival and generational wealth for the future of our children. This is where I landed, the education of our children is of great importance. I cannot stand by and watch the oligarchy put us back to where we were post Civil War and that is why I am one of the founding members of ReelMembers.com., LLC.
